WHAT IS COROZO?
The tagua, or corozo nut, is the seed of a tropical palm tree, a species scientifically known as phytelephas macrocarpas. The name of this species derives from the Greek roots “phyton” and “elephas” meaning plant and elephant respectively, in reference to the very large size of both. As it is greatly similar to elephant ivory, it is often referred to as “vegetable ivory”.
Phytelephas grow extensively in the northwest of South America, starting north of Peru all throughout Ecuador and Colombia as well as southern Panama. The fruit is large, about a full foot in diameter, medium to dark brown and completely covered with hard spikes and composed of cone-like clusters of seeds (the corozo nuts).
The corozo button is a 100% natural, dry-clean washable and high resistance product.
