NATURE

TERME DI SEGESTA

Also known as Polle del Crimiso, these natural volcanic hot springs are located between Alcamo and Castellammare del Golfo, in the province of Trapani. Surrounded by reeds, tamarisk trees, and white and pink travertine cliffs, they offer a wild and peaceful setting. The thermal water, at around 47°C (116°F), forms small natural pools where you can bathe for free. It’s an ideal spot to relax in the heart of nature and enjoy a unique wellness experience, far from the hustle and bustle.

Réserve du Zingaro

The Zingaro Nature Reserve offers a beautiful hiking route with stops at various coves, each with its own unique charm. The coastline here is one of the few stretches in Sicily that remains untouched by a coastal road. Until around 1960, the area was home to a single farming family who relied on mules for transporting goods and water. Even today, mules are still used to carry waste and general supplies in the reserve. In 1976, plans for a coastal road between Scopello and San Vito Lo Capo were introduced. However, thanks to significant environmental activism — including a major protest march on May 18, 1980 — the Sicilian State Forestry Agency intervened and expropriated the Zingaro area, recognizing its immense environmental value. Eventually, with the establishment of Sicily’s first nature reserve through Regional Law 98/1981, the Zingaro Reserve was officially created. The process concluded with the approval of the reserve’s regulations on May 9, 1988. Today, the Zingaro Reserve remains a powerful symbol of environmental preservation, with its stunning coastline and untouched beauty protected for future generations to enjoy.
